Distinguished and Famous people from Altona Meadows

Altona Meadows has been home to people known through elite sport and sustained community service. These connections are residential, with careers and activities extending beyond the suburb.

🏉 Greg Inglis

Rugby league player Greg Inglis lived in Altona Meadows during his Melbourne years, before moving to Sydney. His later career with South Sydney included the Rabbitohs' 2014 premiership, alongside representative football for Queensland and Australia. He retired from the NRL in 2019. The suburb's link is a former home during his playing career, giving Altona Meadows a place in a sporting story more often associated with club colours and interstate rivalry.

🎵 Anthony Sell OAM

Altona Meadows resident Anthony Sell received the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2018 for service to pipe bands. His involvement began in 1963 as inaugural secretary of the Melbourne University Pipe Band while he was studying law. He later helped draft rules and regulations and served the City of Nunawading Highland Pipe Band in leadership roles. It is a reminder that musical traditions depend on organisers as well as the people making the most noise.
